URL shortening and click tracking: when to use it and how to read the numbers

Why shorten a link

A long link full of tracking parameters looks untidy in messages and printed ads and is hard to copy or type. A short link is easier to share and less likely to break when pasted into chat apps.

Click tracking

When you use a separate short link for each campaign or channel, you can see how many clicks came from each one. If you place one link in an Instagram post, another in a WhatsApp message and a third on a printed flyer, the numbers show which one works.

How it works in Linkdfly

From the dashboard open the short links section, paste the original link and save the result. Click counts appear per link in the statistics. The free plan allows several short links and the limits grow on paid plans (see the pricing page).

Read the numbers carefully

Clicks are not sales. You may get many clicks to a weak destination page. Use the numbers to compare channels, then check what happens after the click. Also avoid shortening links you do not own or that are misleading, as this damages visitor trust.
